Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood, Book 10)

Dead in the Family - Charlaine Harris I had read the prior books one after another, then after it had been months since my last Sookie novel. I was afraid I might be lost, that I would need to reread the prior nine books, but I found that wasn't the case. Harris kept me grounded in her world by having Sookie drop bits of backstory as needed. Probably the worst I can say about the series is that I needed those reminders, that all the books have blurred in my mind so I can't tell you what happened in a specific book like say "Dead in Dallas" and I doubt this book, which deals with the aftermath of the "Fairy War" of the last book will be any different. But the good part is that you sink right back into Sookie's world within paragraphs and the books are so consistently good, Sookie endearing and the voice and touches of humor engaging. You feel like you really get to know this small town of Bon Temps and a new book is like spending time with old friends--this installment is no exception--Bill, Eric, Pam, Sam--even characters that in past books came across as rather unlikeable like Jason and Claude--the hours pass away quickly in their company. Because the Sookie books are still something that, for instance, LK Hamilton's Blake books have long ceased being--fun.
